Many of us have experienced following a construction vehicle on the highway or back roads. Usually there’s not much to it. We speed up to pass the truck full of waste debris and go on our way.
However, sometimes we get stuck behind these trucks and are at their mercy as to what debris escapes and pummels us. And when a rock from their truck flies back and hits our windshield there’s not a lot we can do.
It’s not a fun experience when this happens. You really can’t call your attorney as typically there is a sign on the vehicle warning us to stay back 50 feet because of escaping debris. Calling your auto insurance company might raise your rates and you’re still liable for any payments up to your deductible.
So, that leaves you with two choices. Either call an auto repair shop to fix your cracked windshield or do it yourself.
As you’ll see in this video, if it’s just a small windshield crack you can repair it in under an hour and for around $10 (and it’s so easy even a middle school student could figure it out).
The steps are really simple and easy to follow:
1. Purchase a windshield repair kit at local auto store (around $10 according to the video)
2. Clean your windshield & make sure there is no broken glass in the crack
3. Place the Purchased Repair Kit around the Small Crack (so you have a tube for the resin)
4. Put ¾ of the Resin in the Kit
5. Create Vacuum to take our air in crack (wait 10-15 minutes)
6. Push resin back into the crack (let sit for 20 minutes in the sun)
7. Take Off the Kit and add the excess resin to the crack (shouldn’t be much left) & cover it
8. Wait 10-20 minutes and take everything off.
9. Voila – you’ve got a repaired windshield.
