With traffic so bad in many cities a flying car might save the day. And, it might be a reality sooner than you think.
As of now, as you will see on the video there are several flying car prototypes (which can set you back a cool million dollars according the LA Times).
Watch as the cars unfold like an insect from their car shape into a flying machine. One looks like a dune buggy, another folds like a spider, and the last one just looks so fun to drive and fly. There is even one that displays helicopter-like rotors when it transforms. Talk about James Bond.
As for it going mainstream like the Jetsons. Well, we are obviously not quite there. First, you will need a pilot license and will have to take off and land via a runway (landing on a road is not allowed yet). Also, there could be a dangerous problem with so many flying cars in the air (and no air traffic controller managing everything).
The driving mileage is not that great. For example, the AeroMobile flying car has a driving range of 62 miles (top speeds of 99 mph) and a flying cruising range of up to 466 miles.
However, it certainly would be a blessing for those LONG vacation trips to beach with the kids or when you are stuck in traffic. Plus, you would be the coolest person in the neighborhood.
