Think your job’s tough? How about repairing the Great Wall of China by leaning over the edge only protected by a small rope.
Since 2005, China’s been repairing its Great Wall from centuries of wear and neglect. Although still incredibly stunning and sturdy (for the most part) certain areas have come into disrepair and neglect. In those areas, stones are missing or fallen off and it’s only a matter of time before the structure’s weight would collapse the wall.
As you’ll see on the video, it’s not as easy as you’d think to repair the Great Wall of China (let alone get building supplies up where they need it). Since the terrain’s so difficult (many mountainous regions and steep steps) workers are forced to use donkeys to transport heavy stones or create elaborate pulley systems.
Once the building supplies reach the Great Wall that’s where the real danger begins.
Workers courageously dangle themselves over the edge of the wall (only held by a single small, wimpy, tethered rope) to make repairs while others walk over makeshift structures. It’s got to be one of the world’s most dangerous jobs.
Next time you’re stuck making a small home repair or having a bad day at work think of what these brave Great Wall of China workers do every day. It might make you love your job again.
